Along with the Pollinator Partnership, Bat Conservation International and Tucson Audubon Society, Tohono Chul Park is co-sponsoring a photography contest for Arizona resident amateur and professional photographers in celebration of National Pollinator Week June 21-27. The subjects are any live pollinating animal(s) visiting native or cultivated flowering plants found in the state during 2010. There will be a Grand Prize winner, as well as First, Second, and Third Place and Honorable Mention in both amateur and professional categories. The award ceremony will be held June 26 at the Park. Winning and finalist images will be on display in the Park’s Education Center from June 21 to July 5 (closed June 27 and July 4). Images can be picked up beginning at noon on July 5.
Entry Period: April 22 to June 1, 2010
Submittal: Each photographer can submit up to 3 images in either the amateur or professional categories, but not both. Please do not submit images of flowers with MIA (missing in action) pollinators; flower only images without a pollinator will not be accepted.
There are no entry fees. If selected as a finalist, you will be notified by email. It will be the responsibility of the photographer to have their finalist entries matted and framed (no larger than 11×14 format) and delivered to Tohono Chul Park by 5:00pm on Thursday, June 17. Winning and finalist images will be displayed in the Park’s Education Center Classroom #1 from June 21 to July 4. Images can be picked up beginning at noon on Tuesday, July 5.
Digital Format: You may take the original photos in digital or film format, but if film, you must digitize your images and submit in digital format for judging. All entries must be submitted as jpeg email attachments. Please size your images so that they are 5 megabytes or less and roughly 150–300 dpi. Indicate how many images you are submitting and whether you are an amateur or professional (derive at least 50% of your annual income from photography). Judging will follow in a few days and winners will be promptly notified so that images can be matted and framed for display. Prizes: Prizes, donated by corporate sponsors, will be awarded in the categories of Grand Prize, First, Second, and Third Place and Honorable Mention in both amateur and professional categories. An award ceremony will be held at Tohono Chul Park on Saturday June 26, 2010 at 2pm in the Performance Garden; winners must be present to claim their prizes.
