When I heard Tracy Baynes speak to my Rotary Club about the Student Expedition Program (STEP), I e-mailed our show producer to book Tracy for a show as soon as I got to a computer. Given my background in social services, I recognized immediately a program that works. Simply put, STEP is an unprecedented opportunity for talented high-school students with limited financial resources to discover the extent of their own abilities. Students learn about confronting and overcoming the challenges faced during an extended three-week wilderness leadership expedition. There is no substitute for being exposed to Mother Nature to help young students gain self-confidence, increase their self-esteem, develop a sense of purpose and an understanding that they have what it takes to succeed. Joining Tracy is Bill De La Rosa who survived a three week outdoor wilderness experience during his Junior year at Pueblo Magnet High School in Tucson, AZ. This show sponsored by Michelle Ain – winner of Mrs. Green’s World Earth Month Pin It to Win It Contest.
